"The purpose of this organization shall be to supply, replenish, preserve, and maintain the Altar and Sanctuary of St Mary Catholic Church attend the needs of the priests in the celebration of the Mass in the way of vestments and bread and wine, and maintain the decor and rectitude of the Altar and the cleanliness of God's house."*
The first president of record served from 1920-1928. The dedicated members have devoted themselves to maintaining, beautifying and supplying the altar for a least a century. Members volunteer for monthly cleaning crews that dust, polish, and replenish everthing around the altar and sanctuary for four Fridays (or Saturdays) in a row. The main fundraiser is the yearly bazaar and dinner on the first Sunday of November at which monies for candles, hosts, altar wine, etc. are raised to supply altar needs. Some special projects have included the restoration of the beautiful church doors and the redesign and consruction of the steps at the back door of the church (once highly perilous.)
St. Mary's Altar Society invites you to become a member of the organization and enjoy fellowship while helping in the ministry of maintaining the altar and of providing for the needs of the priest in the celebration of Mass.
The Altar Society meets the first (1st) Wednesday of each month (except July and August) from 12:30-2:00 PM for a covered dish luncheon in the Regina Caeli Room of the Ave Maria Building. The Hostess Committee for each month is responsible for providing the lunch for the meeting of that month. The meeting begins with clergy and prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel and the Pledge of Allegiance to our American flag. Lunch is shared and the business meeting commences.
Members serve on committees and in offices.
