St. Mary's Pastoral Council is the representative body of the faithful whose focus is on the whole community--its beliefs, hopes, joys, needs, sorrows, concerns, gifts, and the pursuit of the mission of the Church.
The Council endeavors to assist in uniting the parish community in its expression of its collective wisdom concerning pastoral plans and activities, and it guards against serving special interest groups.
The Pastor calls and leads the Council, and the Council responds, questions and offers sound consultation. The Pastoral Council's task is to give counsel and seek consultation as guided by the Diocese of Austin, and the "Policy on the Pastoral Council" Effective 2005. The Council interacts closely with the parish Finance Council, and, like the Finance Council, is a unit of service, not authority. Membership is determined by the parish community and the pastor through an appropriate process specified in the parish/diocesan norms. Terms of office are from two to five years.
The Pastoral Council is a very important ministry in the parish. Every parish is required by the Diocese of Austin to have one. Members of the Parish Council help to bring the voice of the people to the pastor as well as to help in the decision-making process so necessary for a vibrant church such as St. Mary's.
Our parish greatly appreciates the dedication, commitment, wisdom, effort, and flexibility that each council member brings and so generously gives. Please keep this role and ministry in mind through the years as other council members fulfill their commitments and move on to other ministries.
The Pastoral Council meets the 4th Thursday, every other month. For more information, see Fr. Steve Sauser, Deacon Barney Rodriquez or Steven Santacroce.
