Mission of Altar Servers
The altar server will assist the priests and deacons by their service during the Mass in a reverent, dignified and prayerful manner. The altar server will grow in recognition of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ present upon the altar in His body, blood, soul and divinity through transubstantiation.
Mission of Sacristans
The sacristan will assure that each liturgical celebration occurs in a carefully prepared space and in a manner that reflects the devotion and reverence of the worship and the worship community.
The Sacristy is a privileged space within the church where preparation is made for the liturgical rites and where the sacred vessels, vestments and treasured objects are stored in a clean and orderly fashion. A sacristan is appointed by the clergy to fulfill specific duties and may be any Catholic--priest, deacon, or layperson. The sacristan works in close collaboration with clergy, volunteers, servers, lectors, ministers, and Altar Society. Some of the sacristan's duties may include the following:
