Fathers: Provide and Protect
As the Church continues to rejoice in the mystery of Christmas, this homily reflects on a profound truth of the Incarnation: God chose to enter the world as a child within a family. The Holy Family reveals not only who God is, but also what the family is meant to be—the original cell of social life, ordered toward love, sacrifice, and life.
In this reflection, Fr. Will examines the Christian understanding of family by returning to its foundations in Scripture and focusing especially on the role of the father. Drawing from St. Paul and the witness of St. Joseph, he presents fatherhood as a vocation of authority ordered to charity—an authority that protects, provides, and gives itself for the good of others in imitation of Christ.
Acknowledging that many families fall short of the ideal or carry wounds from the past, this homily emphasizes that the Church holds up the Holy Family not to condemn, but to call every family to conversion and healing. The message concludes with practical spiritual challenges for fathers and a renewed encouragement for families to entrust themselves to God’s grace, trusting that Christ desires to dwell within their homes.
